Cameroon today joins the globe to commemorate the world AIDS day, under the theme, “know your status”. This year, special interest has been taken in the fight against the disease in the military sector of the country.
Educative talks and free HIV/AIDS screening are being carried out in Ebolowa, and officials say these efforts have been yielding fruits following a drop in the prevalence rate of the disease for soldiers in the South Region which is reputed to have the highest number of seropositive persons in the country.
In the military department, officials have been working hard to combat the disease and their efforts are paying off as one of the participants reveals “I do my HIV/AIDS screening once every three months because it is important to know your status”.
Soldiers who are tested positive, are given anti-retroviral drugs and followed up at the HIV unit of the Ebolowa military hospital.
