Tradition, culture and art governed the day at the Advanced School of Mass Communication (ASMAC) on February 07, 2020.
“I deeply encourage you students to continue strengthening the roots of our country”, says Pr. Laurent Charles Boyomo Assala, ASMAC director, on the occasion of the 2020 back-to-roots edition.
He mentioned that it is a tradition with surprises. Indeed were; the mounting of stands just behind the C-block for proper exhibition of assets, and a traditional set-up with a throne and a hut for photo shots, amid others.
Cultural display
Protocol respected, activities were launched, with the director visiting the various stands, parade by the cultural zones; fang-beti, grassfield, sudano-sahelian, sawa, then Gabon and Chad of the diaspora. After which a dance break by the “watafufu girls” follows, then a sketch by the fang-beti cultural zone and stand visiting.
Whether it was to enjoy cultural diversity or to just eat and drink, everyone was satisfied. This year’s chief organiser, Bernadette Kafka, distinguished herself with the organisation quality, according to students.
The day was lit, with students dancing to the rhythm of traditional beats. “This year and last year, there is no match. This was second to none,” says Stacie Atenkeng, journalism student, who blended in the flow events, enjoying herself.

General impressions
While some people say they prefer the Sudano-sahelian dance act, others enjoyed the Grassfields display, talk less of the fire eater from the Sawa community who marvelled the population.
Ex-students showed up in their numbers, notably Janvier Mballa Effa, ex-president of the student union. Some lecturers could also be found watching their students in action, discovering their students’ hidden facets.
Also, the presence of Nadia Abedier, Miss Cameroon France 2019, was noted as a first. Students describe this event as a successful one, with ameliorations as compared to last year’s. The aftermath was crowned by merrymaking, symbol of unity in diversity.
