ASMAC: Debate club bags medal at first ever competition

The advanced school of Mass Communication has been well represented at the just ended Vice Chancellors (VC) Word Cup in Buea. Though being their first ever competition since it was created, they braved the odds and brought back home a medal.

ASMAC registered 8 participants, for the Vice Chancellor ‘s word cup, and 2 answered present in Buea. Mr ENOWMANYI Samuel of Advertising 3 and Miss DINAYEN Emilien of advertising 1 lived up to the expectations of the school, as they brought back home a medal from the competition.

The competitions were in the following fields: debate, debate adjudication, public speaking, public speaking adjudication, and sub competitions best institutional speaker, and most committed debater

The competition which had some 6 universities and higher institutes of learning lasted three days, and had as first place winner in the British Parliamentary Form of debate category Higher Institute of Management HIMS.

The university of Buea followed in second place, and the university of Bamenda in third place.

Even though ASDEC was eliminated at the quarter finals in the debate category, they still made their impact felt as Mr. ENOWMANYI Samuel emerged best institutional speaker with 340 points, and was awarded a medal.

Miss DINAYEN Emilien made it to the semi-finals of debate adjudication where she was eliminated after scoring 5 points.

As concerns their performance and stay in Buea, both Mr. Samuel and Miss Emilien, praised the organisation and logistics committee, as they were well taken care of in terms of feeding and lodging.

They also praised the ambiance and grandeur of this competition.

They expressed joy and satisfaction to have been able to represent their institution and said there is a first time for everything, and this to them was just a try.

They are determined to intensify training in preparation for the upcoming national debates this May that will take place in Yaoundé, to be organised by the Ministry of Secondary Education and it is their hope and wish to perform better if not best this time.
