According to Public Health Minister Manaouda Malachie, as of Friday May 21, 2021, 48,526 persons living in Cameroon have been administered the Covid-19 vaccine.
Drawing his statistics from the evolution of the COVID-19 immunization campaign, Minister Manaouda Malachie on a tweet on Sunday May 23, 2021, disclosed that 29,478 of the 48,526 vaccines administered were the Chinese Sinophram vaccine and 19,048 were the British AstraZeneca vaccine.
Some of the recipients have had just the first dose of the vaccine meanwhile others have completed the series of the vaccine among which are members of Government.
The Minister equally remarked that the number vaccinated so far is still timid and thus called upon those who have not yet taken the vaccine to visit COVID-19 vaccination centers across the country and get immunized so as to prevent further spread of the virus.
Supporting the above view of the Health Minister, Dr. Andreas Njoh, Deputy Secretary for the Immunization programmers in charge of vaccination campaign underlined that non-vaccination will simply lead to spread of the Coronavirus. Going by public opinion, many have been shying away from the vaccines on grounds that the side effects are dangerous; claims that have been debunked by health authorities.
