Oriane FOUDA, the president of the Miss ESSTIC committee, in an exclusive interview with 237campus.com, shares certain details relating to the organization of this competition, which is the first ever of its kind to take place at the Advanced School of Mass Communication.
237campus.com: What does it take to be a Miss?
Oriane FOUDA: Well I can’t really answer to that as it is the jury that will decide. What we do here is to prepare the contestants for the competition. The jury will have to judge the contestants based on certain criteria, such as their smiles, walk, public speaking. The jury will have the final say on what it really takes to be miss ASMAC.
237campus.com: Why a Miss ASMAC?
Oriane FOUDA: To the rest of the world ASMAC has only one student representative who is the president of the students governing body ASEC. The president of this body thought it wise to put in place this competition so as to enable the school have another student representative.
237campus.com: Will the Miss contribute to the image of the school in anyway?
Oriane FOUDA: YES! The Miss will be the spokesperson of the students that is to say it will no longer be the sole responsibility of ASEC to defend the students. The Miss can also be called upon to represent the school in other institutions and the outside world.
237campus.com: Can we say the competition is stereotypical? Looking at the contestants one can clearly see that they are of a certain body type.
Oriane FOUDA: NO! it’s not stereotypical because when we launched this competition, we did not give any criteria except that its open to all female students of ASMAC. But sadly, as it turns out only students of a certain body type applied.
237campus.com: So, the problem is the students?
Oriane FOUDA: YES! It’s the students. All of them
237campus.com: Does this competition also have an intellectual aspect? Or is it just about beauty and physique?
Oriane FOUDA: YES of course it is also intellectual. Later in the preparations, the contestants will be asked to do a discourse on the theme; The portrayal of beauty by social networks: Beauty according to ASMAC. This theme was given by the director of the institution Pr. Laurent C. B. ASSALA.
237campus.com: Why only a Miss and not a Mister?
Oriane FOUDA: We didn’t do a Mister because this is still the first edition of Miss ASMAC, and if it takes of well then in the subsequent editions, we will put in place a Mister as well.
237campus.com: Are there any other schools doing this?
Oriane FOUDA: YES! The Catholic university of central Africa is doing this, as well as the Protestant university. Several other schools are doing this.
237campus.com: THANK YOU!
