Initially programmed for June and postponed to July, defense sessions of final year students of the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of Yaounde 1 will start on August 24.
Following the press release of the Dean of the Faculty Professor Jacqueline Ze Mikande on August 10 announcing the dates of the defense sessions, the outgoing students have mixed feelings.
For Kwansah Larisa a general medicine student she says it is a mixture of both excitement and sadness. “Thinking about my parents who might not witness this day hurts» she reveals. The scheduled date was not taken by surprise ” for me one is never prepared enough but I think I have what it takes to defend my MD thesis, making adjustment on my power point, I will be ready on time ” she adds.
Some students present more enthusiasm, for Arasmos an outgoing dentist says when he was told he will finally be defending in August «I was very delighted, though I haven’t complete my work. I am ready to defend and exited at the same time. It’s been seven agonizing years and a long journey can’t wait to be through» he shares.
If some students are ready and waiting for the D-day, the reality is different for others. Manuella an outgoing generalist shares her reluctance “Even though I want to leave this school as soon as possible, my director has not finish correcting my thesis and I still participate daily in sessions of PowerPoint presentations in order to perfect my presentation abilities”.
Academically prepared or not, the outgoing doctors, dentists and pharmacist are already engaged in the search of dresses, makeup artist for the ladies, reception halls, gastronomic services amongst other to close this chapter of their lives on a note of celebration.
