The first edition of the Festival of Flavours of Cameroon and the world, held as of May 25 to May 29, 2021 at the St. Anastasie Park and the conference centre, both in Yaounde.
The theme for this maiden edition is, “gastronomie camerounaise, vecteur du rayonnement international”. The festival is divided in two phases, with activities taking place at the St.
Anastasie Park at Carrefour Warda from Tuesday May 25 to Thursday May 27, and other activities taking place at the conference centre from Thursday May 27 to Saturday May 29. Locals can attend the different programmes which are a dinner for chefs, a bring-back of almost forgotten traditional meals, a glutton walk and a gala night, amid others.
Different meal-related activities are on the programme, notably the cooking, tasting and discovering of new dishes from far and wide, via the different stands which are present. Those who have never had a taste of some Cameroonian foods can have a stroll at the park located at Carrefour Warda, to bow to the dexterity and art of the country’s chefs, in all their efficiency. They can also enjoy the art of cooking from those who master the in-depth skills and why not, learn from them, so as to perfect theirs.
Prior to this event, a meeting was organised by about 20 chefs at the esplanade of the Yaoundé conference centre on May 20. Their meeting was to strengthen collaboration ties, do table dressing demos and propose 10 traditional meals unique to Cameroon.
This meeting had the presence of learners from training centres, dieticians, nutritionists and some personalities. Besides, Mrs Marie Therese Atezoe Owona, president of CRESPAC, presented the format of the concept which was first known as “night of restorers”.
This festival is of international importance with patrimonial and nutritional stakes. The objectives of this festival which is a concept of the Cameroon network of restorers for the promotion of patrimonial cuisine, CRESPAC, are to; identify, preserve and prone the culinary know-how of the 10 regions, create a reservoir of culinary techniques from home and abroad, and valorise the professionals in this domain of activity. It is under the patronage of the Prime Minister Head of government, Dr Joseph Dion Ngute.
