Enhancing the knowledge of pupils through books is one of the raison d’être of this challenge organized by Ferdinand Nana Payong.
Teachers and lecturers all agree that 80% of pupils and students who succeed are those who have developed a reading culture. This relationship with books helps to upgrade their knowledge, vocabulary, and open their mind.
This thus enables them easily understand their studies and easily improve. Whereas, he who does not have the tradition of reading will get as first inconvenient the inability to read as they are not used to. You can just imagine the impact on someone’s life when he does not know how to read.
It therefore becomes necessary to develop a reading habit. Specialists say this habit formation starts from childhood. So, to curb that alarming situation and help in building up future Cameroonians, the brain behind the project La Bourse du Livre: Ferdinand Nana Payong organises a national reading competition for Class 5 and Class 6 pupil.
This competition is termed Les futurs « bao » de la lecture. It is all about bringing together children of Cameroon where each pupil can request a book from the organisers at the email address: email@example.com and then read an extract of his choice. Later on, each pupil sends a video of maximum three minutes where they are reading that extract. Prior to this, is a parental authorization sent to the organisers.
After what, the jury, be it for the french speaking cameroonians or english speaking cameroonians will proceed at the selective phase.
According to the organisation committee, the event is scheduled to take place from February 25 to May 15, 2021, from the regional tournament to the national final in Yaounde.
According to Ferdinand Nana Payong, this final would take place under the guise of a gala night dubbed cameroonians’ authors and writers gala. An occasion to celebrate and make them known to the general public, as it is said these authors are not always known of the general public nor are their literary work so consumed.
