Done at the the Hospital and Medical Training Center (CHU), this health campaign is done by the level  5 and 6 students from the Faculty of Bio Medical Sciences at the University of Yaoundé I.

Friday February 5th 2021 marks the launching of a health campaign organized by the administrative members of the Faculty of Bio Medical Sciences (FMSB) found at the University of Yaoundé I Ngoa Ekellé.

This health campaign is mainly for dental health, done by the level5 and 6students of the said faculty, specialized in oral/dental medicine.Indeed, this campaign will be done for one week from 8:30 am to 5pm at a newly opened laboratory found at the Hospital and Medical Training Center (CHU) of the Melen neighborhood.

The campaign is organized to help the medicine students so as to get used to the practical aspect in their academic training. “It permits these students to link theory with practice and learn mostly the aspect implantology“, according to Bengondo Messanga Charles, head of theoral surgery department.

The students here are of two categories ; certain are in charge of the propagation of the campaign, they are considered as patients too. These students are mainly those of the level 4 from the FMSB. Whereby, the other category of students are those of level 5 and 6 who actually practice, examine patients and ameliorate their dental health under the control of tutors.

The consultation here is free of charge and the prescribed elements have been reduced since majority of the patients are from the youth population which does not eliminate other category of Cameroonians.

A New Laboratory for the Students

The laboratory has recently been set up so as to enable these students who didn’t have the possibility to practice what they learnt in class. Thus, the laboratory is allocated for this health campaign permitting to the medicine students to exercise themselves, making the laboratory operational. With the aid of the dean of studies, the  oral surgery head of department ; Bengondo Messanga Charles, and the tutor Dr Ndjoh Jules, this laboratory was able to be created.

All the equipements necessary to ease the practical theory for the students are available.“This laboratory is their work instrument” as says Biang Jean Roger equally tutor for these students. The objective of this laboratory is to polish their 7 years training at the FMSB as doctors.

Hardworking students

Students in the dental medicine speciality are very anxious. This is because since the beginning of their training they didn’t have the occasion to exercise themselves on what they learned in class.

As a result they are very hardworking, disciplined and attentive in the laboratory. They relay everyday and do their best to apply what they were given as theory during classes. “We are happy to know that by the next day we  launched this  health campaign, many people were present and we were able to start with consultations” says Onana Steve Romaric student in the option dental medicine.

These students are all thankful to the different members of the administrative who worked as they could to put in place this laboratory. “It permits us to really understand what we learned in school” testifies Bame Marion another student.
